Yo-Yo Ma, The Silk Road Ensemble to play in Izmir, IstanbulMultiple Grammy-winning cellist Yo-Yo Ma and The Silk Road Ensemble will play two concerts in Turkey next month.The French-American cellist and his ensemble will first perform on Sept.

3 at the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center in Izmir as part of the International Izmir Festival. Their Izmir concert will be of particular importance as “A Playlist Without Borders,” a 2013 album by Ma and the group, features a cello solo by Saygun titled “Allegretto from Partita, Op.

31.”They will then head to Istanbul, where they will play one of the second-season performances of the Zorlu Center Performing Arts Center (PSM), on Sept.

4Founded by the cellist in 2000 to bring together innovative performers and composers from around the world, The Silk Road Ensemble is made up of musicians from 20 countries and is known for its blend of contemporary and ancient music genres in its performances that try to reflect on the global society of the 21st century. Having performed in many countries along the Silk Road, from Iran and Armenia to India and Tajikistan, the group also uses instruments from the region.
