Turkish capital hosts 4-day flamenco festival Ankara is hosting a four-day celebration of flamenco this week, presenting dance performances, recitals, workshops, films screenings and exhibitions at various venues around the Turkish capital. Running from Tuesday through Dec.

12, this is the eighth year of the annual Ankara International Flamenco Festival, a joint effort between the Ankara Flamenco Association and the Spanish Embassy in AnkaraLovers of flamenco will have a chance to attend workshops under well-known masters of the Andalusian dance throughout the festival, which will open with an exhibition of paintings themed around flamenco by artist Derya Var at ankaya Municipalityand#39s Contemporary Arts CenterTurkish musician Serhat DoIu will play a guitar recital the same night at the KavaklIdere-based center, which will also host a tribute to Paco de Lucia, the Spanish virtuoso flamenco guitarist who passed away earlier this year at age 67, the same night. Turkish musician Alper KargIn will play songs by de Lucia in the concert, which will cap off the festand#39s first day.

The Turkish dance company Mavi Siyah will perform a flamenco show on Wednesday at Middle East Technical Universityand#39s (ODTu)ulture and Congress Center while a documentary titled andldquoFlamenco de Raandiacutezandrdquo (Flamenco from the roots) will be shown at the Contemporary Arts CenterSpanish dancer Pedro Candoacuterdoba will perform a dance show Friday evening as the closing piece of the program at the Education Ministryand#39s assembly hall in BeIevler For the full program, check out www.flamenkofestivali.
