Singer Yasmin Levyset for 2nd Istanbul appearance this yearIsraeli Ladino diva Yasmin Levy will come to Istanbul next month for a live performance as part of the Turkcell YIldIzlI Geceler concert series.The singer will take to the stage on Aug.

28 at the Cemil Topuzlu Open-air Theater in Harbiye to play her second Istanbul concert this year, following her gig in January, the organizer of her upcoming performance, Pera Event, announced in a press release on Wednesday. Levy is the one of five foreign names confirmed for the concert series, along with French operatic coloratura soprano Emma Shapplin, singers Monica Molina from Spain and George Dalaras from Greece, and Nigerian-American poet and singer Iyeoka as well as the Croatian cello duo, 2Cellos, featuring Luka Sulic and Stjepan HauserLevy, whose roots are in Sephardic Jewish culture, blends the styles of flamenco, tango and fado in her music.

The singer is also known for her love of Turkish music and audiences. She included Spanish versions of the Turkish songs “Firuze” and “Aman Doktor” (Oh doctor) on her latest album “Libertad” (Freedom), which was released in 2012.

The diva says “Aman Doktor” was the song that her grandmother used to sing in her saddest moments, while “Firuze” was suggested to her by a friend, adding that she immediately fell in love with it. Levy also sang another Turkish song, “Sevda,” in Spanish for the compilation album “Ayselim,” which was recorded in memory of late songwriter Aysel Gurel.
