Randevu Istanbul film festival unrolls 17th editionFilm buffs in Istanbul have a chance to see some of the yearandrsquos most popular films on the international festival circuit in the 17th edition of the annual Randevu Istanbul International Film Festival, which opened on Friday and runs through to Dec. 11 in three theaters on the cityandrsquos European side.

Put together by the Istanbul-based Turkish Foundation for Cinema and Audiovisual Culture (TuRSAK), the festival is screening more than 50 critical favorites and new discoveries from prestigious festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Karlovy Vary, Sundance and Toronto. Screenings are held at Cinemaximum movie theaters at Kanyon and Zorlu Center shopping malls and the French Cultural Center in BeyoIlu.

andldquoA Second Chance,andrdquo starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau of andldquoame of Thronesandrdquo fame and directed by Susanne Bier andldquoMy Old Lady,andrdquo written and directed by Israel Horovitz and starring Kevin Kline, Kristin Scott Thomas and Maggie Smith and Olivier Assayasandrsquo andldquoClouds of Sils Maria,andrdquo starring Juliette Binoche, Chloandeuml Grace Moretz and Kristen Stewart, are among the films that will be shown in the festivalandrsquos andldquoala Istanbulandrdquo section.The biopic andldquoJimi: All Is by My Side,andrdquo starring hip hop artist Andrandeacute Benjamin as the late Hendrix, is among the highlights of the festivalandrsquos indies section while andldquoThe Woods Are Still Green,andrdquo an Austrian film that follows a group of soldiers in World War I, is offered in the andldquoCinema Writes Historyandrdquo section.
