Minister: Deputies have difficulty supporting themselves until end of monthEnvironment and Urban Planning Minister Idris Gulluce has said that deputies experience difficulty making a living with their salaries and can barely support themselves until the end of month. Speaking at the inauguration of a high school in the northern province of Samsun on Saturday, Gulluce said that the deputiesand#39 wages are too low for them to sustain themselves until the end of month.

andldquoDo not think that [they are] well paid for being a deputy. [andhellip] Let me add, the deputies [can] barely make a living until the end of month,andrdquo said Gulluce.

A deputy is paid around TL 15,000 per month. In addition, some 400 of 536 deputies also receive retirement pay, making their salaries TL 23,200 in total.

For a family of four, the poverty line was set at TL 4,065.27, according to 2014 figures from the Turkish Statistics Institute (TurkStat).

The minimum wage has been set at TL 949 as of January.
