TODAY’S – MASAK: Ministers’ wealth disproportionate to their wages

MASAK: Ministers’ wealth disproportionate to their wagesThe personal assets of three ministers out of four who were implicated in a major corruption investigation last year are not proportionate to their monthly wages, a recent report by a specialist from the Finance Ministryand#39s Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) has shown.According to a report published in the Birgun daily on Saturday, a report prepared by Ali Demir, a MASAK analyst, was recently sent to members of the parliamentary Corruption Commission, which was established to investigate corruption allegations that implicated four former Cabinet ministers and pro-government businessmen.

The MASAK report states that the assets of former Economy Minister Zafer aIlayan, former Interior Minister Muammer Guler and former EU Minister Egemen BaIII are not proportional to their monthly wages. However, no considerable increase was observed in the bank accounts of former Environment and Urban Planning Minister ErdoIan Bayraktar and his wife.

The MASAK report is crucial for the decision-making process of members of the commission. The report, however, does not include full details about the ministersand#39 financial transactions because some of them did not provide MASAK with all of their account details, claiming they are not within the scope of the specialistand#39s task.

Following the commissionand#39s forthcoming report, Parliament is expected to make its final decision this week about their fate and whether they will be referred to the Supreme State Council, the name the Constitutional Court assumes when it tries top state officials.
