KIPTAI GM acquires numerous properties while in officeIstanbul Public Housing Corporation (KIPTAI) General Manager Ismet YIldIrIm has acquired a hefty list of valuable properties during his tenure in office, many of which were part of developments built by KIPTAI, according to a report in the Cumhuriyet daily on Sunday.YIldIrIm has been the general manager of the public housing firm since 1999 and has acquired a number of valuable pieces of land and real estate since taking office.

Among these is a duplex in a KIPTAI-built complex in the TopkapI area valued at TL 12 million, according to the report. The duplex was purchased in the name of YIldIrImand#39s daughter, Asuda Nihal YIldIrImYIldIrIm also reportedly acquired a farmhouse on a 10,000-square-meter piece of land in the northern Istanbul district of Arnavutky, a three-story building with a view of the Bosporus in the Asian-side quarter of Anadolul HisarI and several other properties in various locations throughout Istanbul.

YIldIrImand#39s name had previously come up in relation to major corruption allegations that went public last year in a serious of leaked tapes. A conversation that was published in a Turkish newspaper last year between former Environment and Urban Planning Minister ErdoIan Bayraktar and YIldIrIm has revealed that the ex-minister, along with other officials, was engaged in a number of unlawful practices, including the re-zoning of plots of land in Istanbul.

A transcript of the leaked conversation was published by the KarII daily. In it, YIldIrIm allegedly tells Bayraktar to change the zoning status of a plot of land in Istanbuland#39s atalca neighborhood to that of an earthquake-prone zone and then hand it over to KIPTAI.

In response, according to the transcript, Bayraktar resists, saying that such a move would be illegal and that it would have andldquodire consequences.andrdquo KIPTAI was reportedly planning to build a police academy on the land.
