EyuboIlu’s 1955 painting of Istanbul sells for TL 18 mlnandldquoIstanbul,andrdquo a painting by 20th century Turkish artist Bedri Rahmi EyuboIlu, sold for TL 1,830,000 — just over $700,000 — over the weekend in Istanbul, becoming the highest priced lot in Saturdayand#39s auction by Antik AI.The gigantic oil on canvas, measuring 195 centimeters by 335 centimeters, had an opening price of TL 800,000 ($306,500).

Painted in 1955 and double signed by EyuboIlu, who died in 1975, the painting was sold by the artistand#39s estate, which is run by his family.Other top lots in Saturdayand#39s modern Turkish painters sale included andldquoDunyayI Gren Gzandrdquo (The World of the Seeing Eye), an oil on canvas by Ali Avni elebi (1904-1993) that sold for TL 945,000, marking the auction price record for the artist, and an abstract work by Fahrelnissa Zeid (1901-1991) that sold for TL 410,000.
