For years this country has been spending funds that it accumulated under difficult conditions on planes and tanks from abroad. Those who are timid when it comes to production are quite brave when it comes to importing.

This is a problem,andrdquo said ErdoIan.Turkish automaker Karsan Otomotiv said last October that it has made significant progress in building Turkeyand#39s long-expected first locally built passenger car, adding that the firm still has to invest $100 million to realize the project.

Although Turkey has yet to produce a domestic-made vehicle, production of vehicles for foreign auto makers is one of the countryand#39s major industries.ASELSAN is a major defense industry firm that produces defense technology for the Turkish military.

The new GlbaII facility in the province of Ankara was built at a cost of $157 million. During his speech at the opening ceremony, ErdoIan vowed to rid the country of foreign dependence on defense equipment by 2023, the Turkish republicand#39s centennial.
