Béla Tarr’s 7-hour plus ‘Sátántangó’ to be shown in IstanbulandldquoSandaacutetandaacutentangandoacute,andrdquo Hungarian auteur Bandeacutela Tarrandrsquos 1994 film known for its epic running time of over seven hours, will be shown this weekend in Istanbul in a special screening at Santralistanbul.The black-and-white film, based on the novel of the same name by Hungarian novelist Landaacuteszlandoacute Krasznahorkai, will be shown on Saturday.

andldquoSandaacutetandaacutentangandoacute,andrdquo which follows the inhabitants of a small village in Hungary as they deal with the effects of the fall of communism, was in the 35th spot in Sight Sound magazineandrsquos 2012 list of 50 greatest films of all time.The screening will be held by Bilgi Universityandrsquos cinema society, which aims to offer Istanbulites remarkable films that have never been shown in Turkish cinemas.

Saturdayandrsquos screening is scheduled to begin at 11 am There will be two intermissions of 20 minutes, once three hours. The film will be shown in its original language with subtitles in Turkish.
