BeIiktaI draws, Lions lose in warm-up gamesCanadian midfielder Atiba Hutchinson scored both goals as BeIiktaI drew 1-1 with Bundesliga side FSV Mainz 05 in England, and Galatasaray was defeated 3-1 by Austrian side Rapid Wien in their pre-season friendlies on Wednesday.The Mainz match was of utmost importance to show the readiness of the Turkish Super League outfit ahead of its qualifying-round clash against Dutch side Feyenord in the European Champions League.

Mainz came on strong in the second half. BeIiktaI goalie Gnen stopped Mainz attacks, while Hutchinson scored an own goal to give the Germans a 1-0 edge in the 51st minute.

The lanky Canadian turned from villain to hero in the 78th minute, this time sending the ball into the back of the Mainz net to make the score 1-1.Following the Mainz friendly, BeIiktaI concluded its pre-season training camp in England, which began on July 13, and headed home to Istanbul.

Galatasaray loses second friendlyUnder new coach Cesare Prandelli, the Galatasaray Lions seemed sluggish in their second friendly in Austria against Rapid Wien, losing the match 3-1 despite scoring first. Cameroon defender Aurelien Chedjou put Galatasaray 1-0 in front in the 27th minute, while Rapid responded the next minute and leveled the deal.

The Turkish Super League side started off the second half with attacks and missed a glaring chance with Portuguese winger Bruma The Austrian outfit scored its second goal in the 52nd minute and a third in extra time, wrapping up the game 3-1.Prandelli tried many different players in the match and fielded new players, including 19-year-old Turkish-German defender Koray Gunter, and several second-choice players, including goalie Eray IIcan.

The Italian coach said in his post-game remarks to reporters that his team should work harder and get ready for the Super Cup match against Fenerbahe on Aug. 25.
