Ataman’s tribute to SabancI headed for Venice BiennaleContemporary Turkish video artist and filmmaker KutluI Atamanand#39s 2014 tribute to the late Turkish businessman SakIp SabancI has been selected for the upcoming Venice Biennale, the artistand#39s publicist announced Friday.Titled andldquoSakIp SabancI,andrdquo the video installation was unveiled last spring at the SakIp SabancI Museum (SSM) in Istanbul, where it remained on display from April through August as a homage to the late SabancI on the 10th anniversary of his death.

Atamanand#39s installation, commissioned by the SabancI family in 2011, is among 159 works of art by 136 artists from 53 countries to be showcased at the biennaleand#39s main section announced on March 5, his publicist said in a press release.The andldquoSakIp SabancIandrdquo installation will be put on display at the Arsenale.

It pieces together portraits of thousands of people from all walks of life whom the late SabancI had in one way or another crossed paths with throughout his life. The installation also makes a reference to SabancIand#39s lifetime interest in state-of-the-art technology.

Set for May 9-Nov. 22, the 56th Biennale di Venezia is put together by Nigerian art critic and curator Okwui Enwezor under the title andldquoAll The Worldand#39s Futures.
