Alberto Manguel set for Istanbul residency programArgentine-born Canadian essayist, editor, anthologist and novelist Alberto Manguel will be the first guest of 2015 in BoIazii Universityandrsquos andldquoBoIazii Chroniclesandrdquo series, an international residency program the university launched toward the end of 2013.The 66-year-old Manguel, best known for his musings on literature, will be speaking in a moderated talk titled andldquoBorges, Libraries and the Pleasure of Readingandrdquo on Jan.

7 at the schoolandrsquos Rectorate Conference Hall as the first event of his residency. The talk will be held in English.

Manguel was a teenager when he met the writer Jorge Luis Borges in a bookstore in Buenos Aires. After that, Manguel read books to an almost blind Borges several times a week, from 1964 to 1968, which he recounts in his 2004 biography andldquoWith Borges.

andrdquoManguel will also give a speech titled andldquoThe Perils of Curiosityandrdquo on Jan. 14 as part of his residency.

The output of the program is a chronicle where the writersartists in residence document their stay at BoIazii University and particularly their experience in Istanbul, in written formFor further information, see www.bogazicichronicles.
