Akbank Art Center show looks at digital revolution in artThe Akbank Art Center in Istanbulandrsquos Taksim offers art lovers a chance to explore how the digital revolution has transformed art, media and our lives, once and for all.On display since Dec.

17, the new media art selection is titled andldquoPost-Digital Histories: Cross-sections from Media Art in the 1960s and 1970s.andrdquoandldquoThis exhibition does not point at any paradigm that will come after the digital [era],andrdquo the showandrsquos curator Ekmel Ertan says in a recent press release announcing the show.

andldquoOn the contrary, it points out that digital technologies have become ordinary they are part of our daily life and culture and have turned into normal.andrdquoCo-curated by Darko Fritz and running until Feb.

21, the show employs a contemporary standpoint in exploring how digital technologies have become standard applications in art and media and points out that the revolution is complete by now since it has already turned into a regular part of our lives.andldquoWe lived the last 30 years by enthusiastically participating [in the digital revolution] and approving the fact that the digital is changing our lives on the one hand while on the other we tried to react by producing critical works of art and theories about it.

However, we now live with the exact same thing we have been criticizing or approving all along,andrdquo the curators say.The exhibition also aims to serve as a meeting point for art lovers, researchers and students at its andldquoOff-Line Media Corner,andrdquo a work and exchange space that offers topical books, catalogs, rare periodicals and an online archive about the subject, which will continue to be available at the centerandrsquos library after the exhibition ends in February.
