AkaydIn: Turel did not give cash prize to festival winners Mustafa AkaydIn, the former Antalya mayor from the Republican People’s Party (CHP), has responded to new mayor Menderes Turel’s claim that he did not pay out the cash prizes to the winners of the 50th AltIn Portakal (Golden Orange) Film Festival, saying that it is Turel who did not deliver the money to the winners.AkaydIn said on Monday in Antalya that the money should have been given to the winners on March 31 this year according to festival regulations and that he left TL 18 million for the payment before the local elections on March 30, after which Turel, from the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) took up the post of mayor Turel claimed the prize for last year’s festival had not yet been paid, during a press meeting in Istanbul’s YIldIz Palace Museum to announce changes to the upcoming edition of the festival.

In the meantime, the festival, organized by the Antalya Greater Municipality, will give a TL 350,000 cash prize only to the production that wins best film, as opposed to in former years when the same amount was also given to best director and best debut film, the DoIan news agency reported on Tuesday.AltIn Portakal, which will mark its 51st edition from Oct.

10 to 18, will offer a total cash prize of TL 640,000. The best director award will come with a cash prize of TL 75,000, while the best debut film will receive TL 125,000.
