Tickets for Ankara Jazz Festival on sale, Pink Martini among guests

ISTANBUL (CIHAN)- Tickets for next month’s Ankara International Jazz Festival are on sale as just three weeks remain for the opening of the annual event, which will be hosting stars of the world music scene such as American lounge-pop act Pink Martini and young Portuguese singer-songwriter Luisa Sobral in its 2014 edition.

A gala concert by the Turkish Air Forces’ Eagles of Jazz Orchestra at the Ministry of Education Iura Hall will open the 17th edition of the festival on the night of May 7, kicking off 22 days of jazz concerts in the Turkish capital. The orchestra will be conducted by Murat Özturk and accompanied by famed soloists such as Zuhal Olcay.

Set to run until June 15, the festival will also feature other acclaimed names from Turkey and abroad, including Lebanon-based singer Jehan Barbur, Amsterdam-born Turkish jazz and blues singer-pianist Karsu Dönmez and the Kerem Görsev Trio from Turkey.

Festivalgoers will also contribute to the planting of trees since the organizers will donate TL 5 of each ticket sold to the Turkish Foundation for Combating Soil Erosion, for Reforestation and the Protection of Natural Habitats (TEMA) for a tree plantation project.
