TANAP project can be completed before 2018 – President Aliyev

Baku: TANAP project can be completed before 2018, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said.

He made the remarks on Dec.3 during a press conference following the meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in Baku.

Turkey and Europe will gain an access to a new source of gas after the TANAP project is completed, said the president. “Azerbaijan’s proven gas reserves are estimated at 2.6 trillion cubic meters,” he noted.

Azerbaijan’s main gas export route is passing through Turkey and then European countries via Turkey, President Aliyev said.

Recalling Heydar Aliyev’s words “Turkey and Azerbaijan are one nation and two states,” Davutoglu said Azerbaijan is developing rapidly.

Turkey always stands by Azerbaijan, the PM said. “Turkey’s relations with Azerbaijan are at a high level. President Ilham Aliyev’s participation in G20 Summit made us proud.”

“During the meeting, we agreed that the TANAP project can be completed before 2018, and therefore, the ministers were given appropriate instructions,” the PM noted.

The Caspian Sea resources play an important role in Europe’s energy security, Davutoglu said. “The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is the backbone of the road from Europe to China,” he added.

“We discussed this issued in China. And the Azerbaijani president will discuss this issue during his visit to China,” he said, noting that Turkey sees Azerbaijan as the rising star of Asia.
