Taekwondo competitions start as part of the first European Games in Baku

Baku: The Taekwondo competitions started as part of the first-ever European Games in Baku on June 16.

Taekwondo fighters will compete today in two weight categories, according to Apasport.



On this weight category, the Azerbaijani team will be represented by Mahammad Mammadov. The junior European champion defeated Israeli athlete Gili Haimovits with a score of 7:4. The Azerbaijani taekwondo fighter will compete with Jesus Tortosa Gabrera from Spain in the 1/4 finals at 15:15 local time.

Azerbaijani athlete Patimat Abakarova encountered Russian Alexandra Lichagina, a medalist of the Islamic Solidarity Games. With a welcome start, the Azerbaijani fighter managed to maintain dominance till the end, winning the fight with a 7:1 victory.

Her next opponent will be Ioanna Kuotsu (Greece) in the 1/4 finals. The fight starts at 15:30 local time.

Note that, the Taekwondo competitions will last for 4 days, and each day two sets of medals will be awarded.
