South Africa’s first life taken by earhquake

JOHANNESBURG (CIHAN)- A powerful earth quake struck during midday in South Africa and claimed its first death.

The council for Geoscience in South Africa confirmed that the magnitude of the earth quake on Monday, after the United States Geological Survey earlier reported it being a 5.3 magnitude quake.

The USGS has made mention that the tremor was centered in Orkney, an area with a high concentration of deep gold mines which is 120 Kilometers southwest of Johannesburg.

According to local news media a man in his 30s was found dead by the paramedics in Klerksdorp.

Halls and a library were evacuated at the Pretoria University, Public Protector Thuli Madonsela’s office was also cleared and there are reports that the South African Revenue Services office in Durban was evacuated.
