Ship, on which dead bodies found, leaves southern Turkey

Four dead bodies were found on a Turkish-flagged dry cargo ship that had sailed to China for maintenance on Thursday. The ship sailed from Iskenderun on Friday morning.

The bodies were said to have been found when the ship, which is currently anchored at a port in the Iskenderun district of the southeastern province of Hatay on Wednesday evening, was undergoing checks in China in a part of the ship that is only opened once every five years for maintenance.

The authorities in China refused to take the bodies and the ship, the IDC Pearl, returned to Turkey.

An investigation was launched into the incident by the Iskenderun Public Prosecutor’s Office after the authorities in China informed the Turkish government about the issue.

Following autopsy at the Council of Forensic Medicine (ATK) and identification, the bodies will be sent to related countries.
