Shahin Sultanov: “I thank President Ilham Aliyev for my release” – The former Commander visited Heydar Aliyev’s grave in the Alley of Honor

Baku: Former Commander of the Azerbaijani Naval Forces (ANF), Vice Admiral Shahin Sultanov, released by the Baku Military Court today, has visited Heydar Aliyev’s grave in the Alley of Honor.

APA reports that Sultanov said he is not guilty.

“I’m not guilty. I thank President Ilham Aliyev and Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva for my release. I have been loyal to my nation, motherland. Heydar Aliyev conferred me the rank of admiral, Ilham Aliyev – Azerbaijani Flag order”.

Sultanov also noted that he has not been deprived of his rank.

The Baku Military Court on Thursday considered a petition on commuting former Commander of the Azerbaijani Naval Forces (ANF), Vice Admiral Shahin Sultanov’s pre-trial detention to house arrest. The court passed a verdict on altering S. Sultanov’s pre-trial detention to house arrest. Following the court decision, he was released.

Note that, according to the Republican Military Prosecutor’s Office, a number of irregularities had been found out during an inspection at the ANF, and the Republican Military Prosecutor’s Office launched a criminal case on the matter. Several persons accused of committing illegal acts, including former Commander of the Azerbaijani Naval Forces, Vice Admiral Shahin Sultanov, were put in 3-month pre-trial detention under the verdict of the Baku Military Court on April 23 based on the presentation of the Republican Military Prosecutor’s Office. Sultanov faced charges under the Criminal Code’s articles #179.3.2 (misappropriation – in large size) and 313 (official forgery). The investigation into the crimes is continuing.
