Roof burns up as fire ladder not reaching to top in İstanbul

A fire broke out at a thirteen-storey building’s roof, on which evacuation efforts have been ongoing as part of slum clearance, in İstanbul’s Kadikoy on Monday.

The fire, which broke out when the workers were working, grew up in a short time. As the first intervention, the fire ladder did not suffice to the top and flames wrapped all the roof.

The fire broke out in Toprak Apartment, located in Bahariyeli Street in Erenkoy neighborhood at around 11:00 p.m. After the first intervention by Erenkoy municipal fire fighter units, Kadikoy and Maltepe fire fighter units were dispatched at scene. After the arrival of other fire fighter crews, the fire was tried to be taken under control from the other sides of the building.

Following about one-hour taking efforts, the fire was taken under control. As not any people got injured or died, material loss occurred due to the fire. Eyewitnesses said that the fire broke out when the workers were working in the building and it was evacuated completely.

An investigation was launched into the incident.
