Report: Number of Russian tourists to Turkey to increase in 2015

The number of mortgage-based house sales skyrocketed in February, increasing by 53.6 percent year-on-year to 36,952 units, according to official figures.

According to the “House Sale Statistics, February 2015” report released by the Turkish Statistics Institute (TurkStat) on Tuesday, mortgage-based house sales contributed to 38.9 percent of all home sales across the country in February.

The highest number of mortgage-based house sales occurred in Istanbu

According to the andldquoHouse Sale Statistics, February 2015andrdquo report released by the Turkish Statistics Institute (TurkStat) on Tuesday, mortgage-based house sales contributed to 38.9 percent of all home sales across the country in February.

The highest number of mortgage-based house sales occurred in Istanbul, with 7,886 units while 58.5 percent of all homes sold in the northeastern province of Artvin in February were mortgage-based — the highest such percentage in Turkey.

TurkStat figures showed that total house sales in Turkey reached 95,021 units in February, an increase of 15 percent compared with the same month of last year

Istanbul was the province where the highest number of homes was sold in February, with 17,690 units, which accounts for 18.6 percent of all home sales in Turkey.

Istanbul was followed by Ankara, with 11,063 home sales — constituting 11.6 percent — and by Izmir, with 5,850 home sales — constituting 62 percent.

The provinces where the least number of homes were sold were Hakkari (six homes sold), Ardahan (six) and Bayburt (29).

The TurkStat report showed that the sale of newly built homes increased by 68 percent year on year in February, hitting 40,662 units — 42.

TurkStat also revealed that a total of 1,369 Turkish homes were sold to foreigners in February. Istanbul had the highest number of homes sold to foreigners with 466 Antalya, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Turkey, was second with 356 after which came Bursa (106) and Yalova (77).
