Prosecutor calls judges not invited to event ‘traitors’

ISTANBUL (CIHAN)- About 150 of the judges who work at the Istanbul Courthouse have allegedly come together at a dinner event where the invitation criterion was whether one is not a “traitor,” sources have alleged.

The Istanbul Courthouse is the venue for some of Turkey’s most important trials, such as the coup plot trials of Ergenekon and Sledgehammer, the terrorist Kurdistan Communities’ Union (KCK) trial and a major corruption investigation. However, it has been marked by scandals since the appointment of Hadi SalihoIlu as the chief prosecutor.

Sources have claimed that SalihoIlu organized a dinner for 150 judges. In response to a judge’s question about what criteria had been observed to invite the guests, SalihoIlu reportedly said that only those who are not traitors had been invited.

Only 150 of the 600 judges at the courthouse were invited to the dinner on April 11, 2014, which was held at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s social facility in KasImpaIa.

The allegation comes shortly after SalihoIlu took prosecutors Mehmet Yuzgeç and Celal Kara off the major bribery and corruption investigation into businesspeople close to the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) as well as the sons of four ministers. SalihoIlu was also accused of making public the names of suspects in a secret investigation that had been in place for three years into a terrorist organization called Selam Tevhid.
