President Ilham Aliyev: Religious hatred is deliberately increased in some cases

Baku: “Azerbaijan plays an important role in intercultural dialogue and tries to bring countries, people together”

I am very glad that the 3rd World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue has today kicked off in Baku. This is a good tradition, we are hosting this dialogue for the third time. Representatives of more than one hundred countries are attending the dialogue. It shows the importance of the debate.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev made the remarks Monday at the 3rd World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Baku.

The head of state said that Azerbaijan plays an important role in intercultural dialogue and tries to bring countries, people together.

“Azerbaijan is located between Europe and Asia, and it played an important role in the country’s cultural diversity. Representatives of different religions and ethnic groups have always co-existed in a situation of tolerance in Azerbaijan. Our historical heritage reveals cultural diversity. We hold international events in order to promote the tradition of multiculturalism,” President Aliyev noted.

The president expressed concern over what is happening all over the world.

“The creation of the Baku International Centre for Multiculturalism was a step in this field. There is no alternative to multiculturalism. Religious hatred is deliberately increased in some cases. But for our efforts, the situation will worsen. Countries like Azerbaijan play a positive role in the world. Islamophobia, anti-Semitism can be alternative to it, these caused great tragedies for the people throughout the history. Multiculturalism is the basis of the Baku process,” he added.
