President Aliyev: Policy of Azerbaijan, Turkey plays stabilizing role in region

Baku: The fact that Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu paid his first official visit to Azerbaijan after the recent parliamentary elections in the country is an indicative of high-level relations between the two countries, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said.

He made the remarks on Dec.3 during a press conference following the meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in Baku.

President Aliyev congratulated the Turkish PM on the victory in the elections.

The head of state then expressed gratitude to Davutoglu for inviting Azerbaijan to the G20 Summit in Turkey. “Turkish and Azerbaijani societies, as well as the world community see how close we are to each other. We share a common culture, ethnic roots and a language. The two states are closely cooperating with each other.”

Turkey was the first country recognizing the independence of Azerbaijan, the president added. “Azerbaijan and Turkey always support each other in all issues. This policy remains unchanged. We want future generations to preserve the high level of these relations. There are all opportunities for that. We want peace in the region, nations and people to build a comfortable life, no one interfere in each other’s internal affairs. The policy of Azerbaijan and Turkey plays a stabilizing role in the region.”

President Aliyev said that the more powerful Turkey is, the more powerful Azerbaijan will be.

The head of state also said that Turkey and Azerbaijan are main factors in the processes going on in the world and Europe. “Turkey’s growing role in the world pleases and strengthens us. We are friends, brothers and will support each other in the future.”
