Political analyst: “International community’s being passive in the issue of Azerbaijani hostages overshadows the peace process”

Baku: “International organizations and great states don’t show a percentage of their activity in the issue of Nadezhda Savchenko, taken hostage in Russia, in the issue of Azerbaijani hostages kept in Karabakh.”

APA reports that head of the Atlas research center, political analyst Elkhan Shahinoghlu said it at the press conference held in Baku today.

He said that indifference of the international organizations and OSCE Minsk Group to the fate of Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev, taken hostages in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, raises questions: “Their being passive in this issue overshadows the peace process. As if no one wants to hear us. Dilgam Asgarov, Shahbaz Guliyev and late Hasan Hasanov went to their lands. The Armenian side called them subversives, held so-called trial on the day of the meeting of the presidents. Armenia’s stepping aside doesn’t change the truth. OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing states and other international organizations should exert their influence on Armenia and achieve the release the hostages.”

Political analyst regarded accusations, that the Azerbaijani hostages killed a teenager, as fiction: “It can be considered as a pretext for making an impact on public opinion. Azerbaijanis were charged with the murder of an Armenian, Armenians attacked a car and killed 3 Azerbaijanis in 1967. Then, it turned out that that person was killed by his uncle. We witnessed many such provocations and groundless accusations.”
