Police tighten security measures around Elci’s graveyard

The head of Diyarbakir Bar, Tahir Elci, who was killed in attack during the press release on Nov. 28 in Diyarbakir, will be buried at Yenikoy graveyard in southeastern province of Diyarbakir on Sunday. Elci, will buried at next to the graves of mother Azize and brother Abdulaziz Baydemir of People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Sanliurfa deputy Osman Baydemir.

Police took tight security measures around the graveyard. Gunshots and explosions were heard in Sur district, in which Elci was killed, until the early hours of morning on Sunday. The curfew, which was declared by the governorship after the death of Elci, have been ongoing in Sur. Five entrances of the district are closed by the police barricades. Special operation and riot police units are staying on alert.

Gathered in Dagkapi square and in Ofis neighborhood, the protestors closed the roads with barricades. Police intervened into the incidents. Some ditches were closed by the police in the early morning hours on Sunday.

The funeral ceremony is scheduled to be held at Kosuyolu Park in the district of Baglar. Following the ceremony Elci will be buried at Yenikoy graveyard.
