Police disperse group trying to march to Berkin Elvan’s grave

ISTANBUL: A group of protestors, who attempted to march to the graveyard where one of Gezi protests’ youngest victims Berkin Elvan was laid to rest one year before, faced with the harsh intervention of the riot police on Wednesday.

Protestors gathered in Okmeydanı neighborhood of Istanbul and tried to march to the Feriköy graveyard aiming to visit Berkin’s grave on the anniversary of his death. But claiming that the march is illegal, police blocked the way of the group and required them to end the protest. Police intervention sparked fierce clashes among protestors and security forces in a short time.

Okmeydanı neighborhood has turned into the warzone a result of clashes while tension is still continuing at the area.
