Phone used as remote control

Dar es Salaam. Misplacing a remote control for your television, an air conditioner (AC) and many other home appliances should now no longer be a headache to Tanzanians using Samsung products as the electronic giant has automated all such applications under your own smartphone.

Smartphones like Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and 4 as well as Samsung Galaxy tablet 2014 edition have an inbuilt WiFi application that can easily connect to some of the electronic firm’s products including ACs, Smart television and freezers, among others.

“The service is now available in Tanzania..all Samsung products are currently registered under one system – with an inbuilt Wi-Fi. You just need to pair the products such as washing machines, ACs and freezers, among others, to a Samsung smartphone and you can easily use your handset as your remote control wherever you are,” said the Samsung Electronics Tanzania Sales and Distribution manager, Mr Sylvester Manyara. Though new in Tanzania, in developed countries consumers of the company’s products are already using Samsung’s Android platform to control their flat-screen TVs, Blu-ray players and home theatre systems through wireless connectivity. Mr Manyara revealed this in Dar es Salaam during the weekend at an event where the electronic manufacturer unveiled two new products to its dealers in Tanzania.

The products included a new triangular design AC and a Duracool chest freezer. The firm’s manager for Consumer Electronics Business, Mr Raghu Shetty, said the two products had been designed to fit Tanzania’s conditions.
