People honoring oil workers missing after offshore field accident

Residents of Baku are bringing flowers to the Seaside Boulevard to honor the oil workers, who went missing after a fire broke out on an offshore platform of the Gunashli field on December 4.

Since the early hours of the morning people have been laying flowers at the pier or throwing them into the sea.

A fire broke out on an offshore platform of SOCAR’s Gunashli field on december 4, after an underwater high-pressure gas pipeline was damaged in strong storm.

As many as 33 people were rescued in a large-scale operation, while body of one oil worker was recovered.

Some 29 oil workers are listed as missing.
