One killed in clash between Turkish military, Syrian group crossing border

HATAY (CIHAN)- A clash between a group of Syrians trying to cross into Turkey illegally and Turkish military forces left one dead, according to a Wednesday statement by the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK).

The statement said that the group was trying to cross the border from a minefield on the Syrian side and, after ignoring the military personnel’s orders for them to halt, split into two groups. Twenty-five, according to the statement, ran back to the Syrian side and started shooting at the Turkish forces and the remaining five Syrians persisted in their attempt to cross the border. When they made it across, the five got into a fistfight with border security personnel, the TSK said.

During the brawl, one of the five Syrians fell and was seriously injured when he hit head on the pavement. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, but died shortly after, early on Wednesday.(CihanToday’s Zaman)
