Ol’ Blue Eyes to get birthday bash at gstanbul jazz fest

American jazz and soul singer and pianist Oleta Adams and singer Aloe Blacc will perform a musical tribute to Frank Sinatra to mark his 100th birthday this summer in Istanbul when they take to the stage for an outdoor concert as part of this year’s 22nd Istanbul International Jazz Festival.

The concert, set to take place one night before the 2015 festival wraps up, will be hosted at the historic summer residence of the German Consulate General in Istanbul in the Tarabya district.

Adams and Blacc will be joined by a group of other guest vocalists to be announced at a later date to perform in the July 14 concert titled “Sinatra and Lady Day,” paying equal homage to Billie Holiday, a major source of inspiration for Sinatra in the early days of his career, the festival’s programmers announced Monday.

The concert will be put together under the musical directorship of Grammy-winning jazz drummer Terri Lyne Carrington, the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (iKSV) said in Monday’s press release.

The 22nd Istanbul jazz festival will take place from June 27 through July 15 and feature more than 35 live performances in various venues around the city.

The iKSV also announced the details of the closing concert of this year’s program. British soul musician Michael Kiwanuka will be making his first ever appearance in Turkey when he performs the closing gig, set for July 15 at Kucukciftlik Park.

Joan Baez, Marcus Miller, Jools Holland, Melody Gardot, Roberto Fonseca, The Bad Plus and Joshua Redman are among previously announced acts to perform at this year’s festival. For the full program see caz.iksv.org. Festival tickets are available for purchase via Biletix and at iKSV.
