OKAN UDO – BalIkesir, Konya face moments of truth as league week 25 kicks off

BalIkesir, Konya face moments of truth as league week 25 kicks offTwo teams fighting uphill battles against relegation in the Spor Toto Super League take to the stage in week 25 on Friday, when bottom club BalIkesirspor hosts EskiIehirspor and second-from-last Kardemir Karabukspor entertains Torku Konyaspor BalIkesirspor, the team with the worst offense and worst defense in the 18-team league, is in a very precarious situation as it stares down the barrel of relegation. With only 15 points out of a possible 72 in 24 games, BalIkesirspor does not have the luxury of dropping points anymore.

But with a very weak offense and porous defense it may be mission difficult, if not impossible, for Kemal zdeI’s men to prevent this from happening on Friday. BalIkesirspor, however, can take heart on Friday because EskiIehirspor is surely a far cry from the team of yesteryear The Anatolian team parted ways with ErtuIrul SaIlam in January after a string of dismal results and brought German Michael Skibbe, who trained the team in 2011, back to the helm However, things have not changed much.

EskiIehirspor is languishing in 15th place in the league table with 27 points, just seven ahead of 16-placed relegation candidate Kayseri Erciyesspor, and therefore is in dire need of victory on Friday. However, the several walking wounded on the EskiIehirspor squad — central midfielder Sezer zturk, left back zgur ek and Serbian Goran Causic missed training sessions this week — won’t help Skibbe’s cause.

But if EskiIehirspor, despite the odds, cannot beat the likes of BalIkesirspor, then it faces difficult days ahead with 10 games to go. Kardemir Karabukspor, with 18 points, is as desperate as BalIkesirspor and therefore needs victory at all costs over Torku Konyaspor to keep its slim hopes of survival alive.

That indeed is what Karabukspor wants, but the fact of the matter is that you can’t always get what you want. And as the saying goes, “If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

” Torku Konyaspor is a stronger team than Kardemir Karabukspor even though it is playing on the road. The Konyans will be mightily happy to win and to add to almost doomed Karabukspor’s woes.
