Obscure UIak Sportif rallies to edge ‘mighty’ Efes in TBL

Muratbey UIak Sportif rallied from 18 points behind to snatch a 76-75 win over favored Anadolu Efes in front of its home crowd in their Turkish Basketball League (TBL)lash on Sunday. The defeat, which came with an impressive 29-16 aantage held by the hosts in the final quarter, cost coach Dusan Ivkovic’s Efes the TBL lead.

It was the second consecutive loss for the Istanbul club. Chris Warren paced UIak with 22 points, and Courtney Fells scored 17 points.

Anadolu Efes coach Ivkovic said it was a tough and interesting game. He noted that his players controlled the game in the first three quarters, but they needed to maintain pace throughout 40 minutes.

UIak was more effective around the rim in the first quarter, and Efes failed in its attempts from behind the arc as the hosts took a 19-17 lead.

Efes reclaimed the lead with a tough defense in the second quarter and edged UIak 36-34. The visiting side thrived in the third quarter and nailed an 18-0 run, while the hosts could not score for seven minutes.

Courtney Fells sank a three-pointer from a 10-meter range, but it only brought his side 12 points closer and Efes took a 59-47 lead going into the last 10 minutes.

UIak reduced the margin and came to 58-64 near the midway mark.

Warren and Fells hit back-to-back threes to bring the hosts as close as one point. With 18 seconds left to the final buzzer, Fells stole the ball from Heurtel and scored a three-pointer and, with six seconds left, a Warren layup ended the game in favor of the hosts: 76-75.
