Novruz Mammadov: Mutual interests should be taken into account in cooperation between EU and Eastern Partnership countries

Riga: Azerbaijan’s position is that a relationship with all the Eastern Partnership countries should be built on the basis of the nature of these countries, Deputy Head of the Azerbaijan’s Presidential Administration, Head of the Administration’s Foreign Relations Department Novruz Mammadov told reporters from Azerbaijan in Riga on Thursday.

“Unfortunately, it was not like that so far. However, this summit shows that EU leaders decided to differentiate the cooperation. Eastern Partnership countries approach the issues basing on their own interests. I think the parties must do their utmost to continue the cooperation successfully. We must take into account mutual interests in this regard. It is important to take into consideration the nature of works carried out by each country and cooperation within the partnership,” the top official noted.

The current status of the cooperation between the EU and Eastern Partnership countries and the prospects of this cooperation will be discussed during the Riga summit, Mammadov added..
