National Gymnastics Arena celebrates Novruz

Novruz holiday was celebrated among the members of the Azerbaijani team in gymnastic disciplines, who at the same time are students of a special school, organized with the support of Azerbaijan’s Education Ministry and Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation.

As previously reported, this educational project was set up to create opportunity for the school age gymnasts to acquire knowledge as well as regular students while not leaving the National Gymnastics Arena.

The multinational team has presented a vivid performance, where children danced, sang songs, declared poems in Azerbaijani, and told interesting facts about ancient Novruz.

Being the guest of the event, Vice President of Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation Altay Hasanov said today’s holiday has proved that the gymnasts know the Azerbaijani culture and heritage, as well as they know how to defend the honor of their country in the international arena.

Novruz, marks the end of the old and beginning of the new year. Azerbaijanis celebrate it with joy and fun.

Novruz is loved by both children and adults. It is a celebration not only of the vernal equinox, but also equality, communion and unity. Novruz brings people of different backgrounds together, strengthening mutual respect and peace in society.

Novruz celebrations begin a month before the actual holiday, which is on March 20-21. The four Tuesdays named after these elements and called Su Chershenbesi (Water Tuesday), Od Chershenbesi (Fire Tuesday), Hava Chershenbesi (Wind Tuesday) and Torpaq Chershenbesi or Akhir Chershenbesi (Earth or Last Tuesday).
