Nation celebrates Republic Day with novelties

Republic Day, which marks the foundation of the Turkish Republic on Oct. 29, 1923, has been celebrated across the country, with new activities added to the ceremonies.
The celebrations for the 92nd anniversary of the republic began with an official ceremony in the Turkish capital Ankara, which was attended by top political leaders and military commanders. The ceremony took place at Anitkabir, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatandurk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoilu, Parliament Speaker ismet Yilmaz, Republican Peopleand’s Party (CHP)hairman Kemal Kiliandcdaroilu and Turkish Bar Association (TBB)hairman Metin Feyzioilu were in attendance.

President Erdogan left a wreath at Atatandurkand’s mausoleum. The group then observed a minuteand’s silence, which was followed by the singing of andquotistiklal Marii,andquot the Turkish national anthem.
An official event took place at the Atatandurk Cultural Center following the ceremony at Anitkabir that was attended by high-level state officials, military commanders and representatives of some political parties.

Erdogan saluted the public from a ceremonial car together with the commanding officer of the Turkish Land Forces, Gen. Hulusi Akar.
A special logo was designed for the Republic Day and it was pressed as a stamp.
Participating in the celebrations for the first time were a total of 150 people from the Presidential Symphony Orchestra (CSO) and the Ministry of Culture and Tourismand’s State Polyphonic Choir, who performed the and”istiklal Marii.andquot The Turkish Air Forcesand’ aerobatics demonstration team, SoloTandurk, gave a display and a mehter band with 300 musicians also performed.

Also for the first time were displays by pilots from the Turkish Aviation Board (THK) in andquotwingsuitsandquot and archers from the Archersand’ Union. The Presidential Guard Regiment also performed a show with rifles.

Speaking during the ceremony, Erdogan said: and”We are powerful enough to overcome all kinds of threats targeting our government, which we [as the Turkish nation] built with a historical fight for independence and crowned with the republic. andhellip I express my gratitude to and commemorate with prayers those who contributed to victory of the War of Independence and establishment of the republic.and”
During their Republic march, members of the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality and some non-governmental organizations walked by the presidential palace known as Ak Saray in Ankaraand’s Beitepe district.
Erdogan saluted the citizens celebrating Republic Day holding a meters-long Turkish flag from the balcony of Ak Saray. Speaking with a microphone in his hand, Erdogan called out to the citizens, and”I celebrate you all.and”
