More Syrians enter Turkey as intense fight continues

More Syrian people began to enter Turkey in masses on Sunday as intense fighting in northern Syria between Kurdish fighters and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) continues.

Taking Tal Abyad, some 80 kilometers north of the Islamic State stronghold of Raqqa, would deprive the militant group of a direct route to bring in new foreign militants or supplies. The Syrians were taken to the country after security forces formed a corridor with armored vehicles on the Akcakale border gate.

More and more people enter country under security measures taken by the security forces. Some 13,000 refugees have already crossed into Turkey in the last 10 days, according to the Foreign Ministry. Some of the arriving refugees stay with their relatives in Akcakale, some went to city center, Sanliurfa and neighboring cities.
