Military vehicle hits the mine in eastern Turkey, 7 soldiers wounded

MARDIN: At least seven Turkish soldiers wounded as the armored military vehicle hit the land mine southern province of Mardin’s Bagok mountains locality on Monday.

The Mardin Gendarmerie Special Operations Commander and another six soldiers were wounded in the explosion and were taken to a state hospital for treatment, Turkish General Staff said in a written statement.

The outlawed Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK) has probably planted the land mines in the eastern and southeastern regions of Turkey for a long time.

The PKK, listed as a terrorist group by Turkey and other countries, took up arms in 1984 in an attempt to create an ethnic homeland for the Kurds in southeast Turkey.
