Members of criminal group killed in Nardaran shootout buried

Baku: The bodies of the members of an armed criminal group, killed in a shootout with police forces in the Nardaran township of Baku on Nov 26, were handed over to their families on Tuesday.

The bodies arrived in Nardaran early this morning and were buried in the village cemetery, an APA correspondent reported from Nardaran.

The Interior Ministry conducted a special operation in Nardaran on Nov.26.

The prosecutor general’s office and the Interior Ministry said in a joint statement that the operation was carried out after the ministry received information of a so-called armed religious group which had been planning to destabilize Azerbaijan, carry out provocations, riots, and terrorist acts in the country.

During the operation, members of the group have opened fire and thrown a grenade at police.

Group members Abbas Huseyn, Sarvan Safarov, Akbar Babayev, Farahim Bunyatov and Rafael Bunyatov were killed in the operation. Abbas Huseynov is a resident of Ganja, Sarvan Safarov of Masalli and the other three are Nardaran residents.
