May Day continues with police intervention, clashes Istanbul

ISTANBUL: Police intervention into protesting people continues on Labor Day in Istanbul. A man who held a demonstration by himself by sitting on a chair in Kurtulus neighborhood near Takim Square was exposed to a harsh treatment by the riot police. The sitting man was stopped with water cannon and left the area.

Riot police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse a group of protesters who attempted to march from the central Istanbul neighborhood of Fulya to Taksim Square. Protesters clashed with the police, throwing stones and firecrackers. As the police intervention was under way, two protesters were assaulted by unidentified people.

Meanwhile, large numbers of people were detained by the police.
