Man murders wife, 2 children in Aydın

Fatih Yavuz, who worked as a chauffeur for the Efeler Municipality, called his wife and told her to bring their two children to the hotel at which he was staying. The two had separated a month ago and Yavuz was staying at a hotel on Hukumet Boulevard. According to media reports, he claimed that he wanted to see his children before the first hearing scheduled for Dec. 15.

Yavuz alleges that he asked his wife, Halime, to make peace. At around 11:30 p.m. the two began to argue, which led to Yavuz taking a knife and stabbing her in the chest in front of their two children. He then murdered the two children, aged 1 and 3, in the same way.

The man then attempted to commit suicide by stabbing himself in the chest. Hotel workers arrived at the scene, alerted by the noise coming from the third-story room, and he was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment. Yavuz was discharged after five hours and taken in for questioning by the police.

The bodies of the mother and two children were taken to the İzmir Council of Forensic Medicine for autopsies.
