Mahmud Mammad-Guliyev attends first informal meeting of Eastern Partnership trade minister

Baku: Brussels hosted the first informal meeting of trade ministers of the EU Eastern Partnership programme.

Azerbaijan was represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammad-Guliyev at the meeting chaired by Cecilia Malmström, the European Commissioner for Trade,

The Foreign Ministry told APA.

The prospects for the development of economic and trade relations between the EU and Eastern Partnership countries were discussed at the meeting.

The deputy FM said in his speech at the event the country is undergoing dynamic economic development and that the development of the non-oil sector and export areas in this direction form the basis of the economic reforms being carried out by the Azerbaijani government. He also added that the EU is an important trade partner of Azerbaijan, noting the existence of huge potential for the expansion of bilateral trade relations.

M. Mammadov-Guliyev expressed his concern over the illegal export of products manufactured in occupied Azerbaijani territories to Europe, stressing that the EU needs to take preventive measures against such cases.
