Leyla Aliyeva receives Blue Marine Foundation specialist

Baku: Head and Founder of IDEA Public Union Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva on Monday received Rory Moore, a marine biodiversity specialist to Azerbaijan of Blue Marine Foundation – the Great Britain’s world-renowned organization for protection of the marine environment, IDEA Public Union told APA.

Leyla Aliyeva at the meeting spoke to the guest of achievements made by IDEA for the protection of the environment, expressing concern for the ecological condition of the Caspian, especially the increasing degradation of its rich fauna, and noting use of international experience as the way out of this problem. For this purpose, IDEA closely cooperates with international specialists of this area, Aliyeva added.

Rory Moore in his turn said Azerbaijan is rich with fish resources and that the country has huge potential for the development of this area.

The British specialist said during this visit of his he will analyze the condition of the fish resources of the Caspian and inland waters as well as the situation in the fish industry and prepare a report on it. The report will also contain recommendations on the restoration of the Caspian biodiversity. Moore said application of modern technology and use of scientific methods is especially important for the bettering of the situation.

Blue Marine Foundation was founded for the protection of the marine environment and tackle with dangers faced by oceans in 2010. The foundation’s mission is to achieve efficient protection of 10 percent of oceans by creating reserves by 2020.

It was noted that a delegation led by chairperson of Blue Marine Foundation Charles Clover made a visit to Azerbaijan at Leyla Aliyeva’s request in February this year.

During that visit, the sides discussed the ecological situation in the Caspian Sea and reached an agreement on the involvement of Blue Marine Foundation’s leading specialists in the restoration of the Caspian fauna.
