Labor unrest drags on as workers refuse offer

Workers at the Turkish arm of French carmaker Renault turned down company concessions including a cash lump sum on Sunday, reigniting the defiant mood that just showed signs of fading in separate Turkish carmakers which also suffered from strikes.
Renault on Saturday asked protesting workers to return to work in exchange for increased salaries. Earlier reports suggested that the workers agreed to concessions however, the Bursa plant still did not commence car production as workers refused to resume work on Sunday. Production at the companyand’s joint venture Oyak Renault has been halted for a week in a dispute with workers over pay and working conditions, which has also affected other producers in the northwest city of Bursa, including Turkish carmaker Tofai and US carmaker Ford unit Ford Otosan.
