Korean opera ‘Soul Mate’ to have Turkish debut at Aspendos

and”Soul Mate,and” an original opera from South Korea about the countryand’s traditional wedding ceremonies and customs, will have its debut performance in Turkey this fall when the Korea National Opera brings its production to this yearand’s Aspendos International Opera and Ballet Festival.
The Korea National Opera is one of two foreign guests of the 2015 Aspendos Festival, which marks its 22nd edition from Sept. 5 through 28 in the southern province of Antalya. Russiaand’s Grigorovich Ballet Company is the other visiting company in the lineup, announced this month on the festivaland’s website.
The Koreans and Russians are joined on the bill by three of Turkeyand’s State Opera and Ballet (DOB)ompanies, the Antalya, izmir and Ankara operas and choirs. The Mersin State Opera Orchestra will perform alongside Antalya DOB in the gala concert on Sept. 5 to mark the festivaland’s opening.
The Grigorovich Ballet Company will perform the ballet and”Spartacus,and” featuring 20th-century soviet composer Aram Khachaturianand’s world famous score and choreography by Yuri Grigorovich.
Ankara DOB will present its 2015 ballet production and”Hamlet,and” based on the Shakespeare tragedy with a score by 20th-century Georgian composer Revaz Gabichvadze, and the opera and”Ali Baba 40,and” by Turkish composer-conductor Selman Ada.
The Antalya State Opera and Ballet Orchestra, joined by singers from various opera companies that are members of the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TanduRKSOY), will perform a concert rendition of the best known operas by Puccini in two concerts back to back, on Sept 27 and 28, to wrap up the festival.
