Journalist Hakan faces investigation on charge of ’propagating terrorism’

According to the news report, Hakan stated that prosecutor İdris Kurt, who is overviewing the investigation into him, asked Hakan to pay TL 20,000 within a week to stop the investigation and prevent its submission to a local court for Hakan to be tried for “propagating terrorism.”

Hakan stressed that he, through his lawyer Turgut Kazan, will object to the notice from the prosecutor on the grounds that it is an explicit threat to himself and will not bow it.

Late Diyarbakır Bar Association head Tahir Elci, who was killed in crossfire between security officials and the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) on Oct. 26, had been officially charged with disseminating terrorist propaganda after saying the PKK is not a terrorist organization during the same TV program on which Hakan made the comments this investigation stems from.
