Journalist files complaint against police officers that beat her

Journalist Michelle Demishevich filed a complaint on Tuesday against the plainclothes police officers who beat her on Monday outside the Belgian Consulate while a press statement was being given by the Turkish presidentand’s daughter, Sandumeyye Erdogan.
Lawyer Sezin Uandcar read out a joint press statement issued by the T24 news portal reporter, her lawyers and the Turkish Journalists Union (TGS) outside the andcailayan Courthouse in Istanbul. and”Our dear friend Michelle, who is identified as a female and as a transsexual, was victimized when she was watching Sandumeyye Erdogan. Unfortunately, this is not the first incident of women and journalists being violently attacked. We will be following this legal process and we are going to enter the courthouse to file a complaint.and”
The original incident occurred when members of the ruling Justice and Development Partyand’s (AK Party) womenand’s wing went to the Belgian Consulate in an act of solidarity to show support for Mahinur andOzdemir, who was recently expelled from her status as a member of the Belgian parliament for denying that the large-scale massacres of Ottoman Armenians in 1915 were a genocide. After the womenand’s wing had given its press statement outside the consulate, Sandumeyye Erdogan met with the Belgian consul general. Journalists gathered to inquire about the meeting as she was leaving the diplomat. It was then that Demishevich was beaten by the police officers.
