Italian actor Nino Manfredi remembered in Ankara retrospective

Nino Manfredi, one of Italyand’s best known comedy-drama actors, who died on June 4, 2004 aged 83, will be remembered this week in Ankara thanks to a special program featuring eight of his feature films from the period between the late 1950s and the 1970s.
The retrospective runs from June 9-14 at andcankaya Municipalityand’s Contemporary Arts Center in the Kavaklidere neighborhood. The program, where admission to screenings is free, is a joint effort between the Italian Embassy in Ankara and the andcankaya Municipality.
The series, where all films will be shown in their original Italian with subtitles in Turkish, begins on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. screening of and”Audace colpo dei soliti ignotiand” (Fiasco in Milan), a 1959 crime comedy directed by Nanni Loy.
Highlights of the program are and”Le avventure di Pinocchioand” (The Aentures of Pinocchio), a shortened version of the 1972 TV mini series of the same name directed by Luigi Comencini, and and”Per grazia ricevutaand” (Between Miracles), Manfrediand’s directorial debut, for which he won the Prix de la premiandegravere oeuvre at the 1971 Cannes Film Festival.
Other films on the bill include and”A cavallo della tigreand” (Jail Break), a 1961 comedy directed by Comencini, and”Io la conoscevo beneand” (I Knew Her Well), a drama from 1965, and and”Operazione San Gennaroand” (The Treasure of San Gennaro), a 1966 comedy directed by Dino Risi.
